As we transition to a new year, I always enjoy reading your compilation of the "Next Big Thing". Of course 2024 will be a tumultuous geo-political year, with the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, and elections in the US, India, and Taiwan. From my perspective, the adoption of Generative AI by the world's enterprises will accelerate in 2024. Domain-specific LLM powered applications will be deployed using NVIDIA AI Enterprise in many of the world's largest enterprises and public institutions!
The decline of pay-as-you-go and pay-per-use software as a service packages. Think data pipeline tools, freight tracking software, payment adjudication saas. Margins for these SaaS businesses will continue to increase yet be increasingly threatened with new entrants baking AI into their GTM and other human intensive processes, providing higher margins with a heightened focus on R&D and top tier product features. We’ll see a transition to lower $ amount, longer timeline contracts with a max usage allotment, where customers pay for core features and baseline customer support and competitive deals are highly price elastic. Price, features and ease of use comparison taking the mainstage for deal negotiations.
Personalised Gen AI propelled wearables leveraging the latest EEG tech with multiple use cases across Consumer Tech/ Healthcare shall be the next big thing in 2024.

If software-to-software communication is the theme for 2024, Hashicorp with Vault is insanely well positioned and probably the most mispriced infrastructure software (and potentially ALL software) business in the public markets at <5x sales
The next big thing in 2024 will be a wave of Dev Tools and reimagining of the tech stack powering the next generation of fundamentally different, AI-first businesses. As the number of new AI entrants rises, founders at older venture backed businesses who leave to start their own thing or fresh starts/ex big tech teams are finally ready to shed the old tech stack and pick the best of breed for their particularly purpose. This is going to shift the landscape meaningfully.
Finally, an effective early intervention for low bone density - large and critical public health issue :-)
