I envy the Beckham jersey but someday hope to acquire another #7. Candidly a non-expert here but it seems that NFT's represent a brilliant solution to a specific sect of goods. Part of the beauty & admiration of goods that hold value exist due to the sensory experience they provide, with less sensory input the interaction, impact, and final value are surely altered. Would be interested to hear your thoughts exploring the trust & authenticity angle. Companies & even individuals who break the barrier of a skeptic and gain trust take with them huge power that can easily be both capitalized and lost. As institutional distrust erodes how do people vet companies and individuals, how do companies and individuals build up this trust, & how do you create impenetrable integrity as to not lose this trust once earned.
All great thoughts, Matt. One could imagine the ways in which companies/individuals offering NFTs could erode trust - for example, by creating very similar new NFTs to ones that were supposed to be one-of-a-kind, thus making those initial ones less valuable / rare. There exists the ability to create infinite numbers of similar versions of NFTs in a way that is not possible in the "real" world where goods need to be "manufactured" from scarce resources. I also agree with you about the sensory experience leading to value, which is often much more the case with a real good vs. a digital good. I think these are exactly the types of lines companies playing with digital assets will have to navigate.
