There is always the next big thing that most people don’t believe. Is nice for at least few people to realize that and this what makes the world to be a better place for everyone.

Great compilation. I found the below thought compelling --> I am excited to expand my wandering from the analog world to the digital realm!

"The next big thing in 2021 is people realizing that serendipity happens more in our digital worlds (Twitter, Clubhouse, etc.) than in the analog one." -Chris Paik, Co-founder & General Partner at Pace Capital

Wandering and creating time/space to think is an underrated skill! And it's my favorite output of increased productivity. https://curiousexpeditions.substack.com/p/work-like-a-lion-not-a-cow

We continue to value loving, learning, and legacy. By loving (caring) and sharing what we learn, we create a legacy for generations to come. Thank you for sharing these keen insights.

Under food. Radically stricter laws to control the amount of sugar in prepared food to combat obesity.

How does the "Heartland USA" (and the heartlands of every other country!) fit into the "next big thing"? Just a cautionary statement to believe that problems arise and solutions evolve only in the largest metropolitan areas. And that the greatest thinkers in technology and other realms are clustered in their respective hubs. Shripriya Mahesh lightly touches on this.

Great point, Jim. In future years, I’ll try to assemble a less coastal group of people for a piece like this.

The next big thing is companies will start to to realize they have better uses for cash than stock buybacks. Why not invest in more R&D or a little venture capitalism. Extend into complementary products. Eliminate that bottleneck on the factory or warehouse floor. Modernize the IT. Cut prices. Modernize the factory floor. Get rid of that really touchy piece of equipment. Improve the production flow. Hire a real manager.

Thanks for sharing, Edward! It will be interesting to see if this happens, particularly for less tech-forward incumbents that likely need to reinvent themselves

Great article and enjoyed reading their thoughts on everything that makes our world go round however, I did not see anyone mention education and what the next big thing is in 2022. As an educator, we had to first learn Edgenuity for the first half of the pandemic and then learn Schoology for the beginning of the school year. Do you think education will be different in 2021? Some of our students enjoyed learning from home while others still kept to their way of learning, which is not attending class via ZOOM or working on assignments.. I think our K-12 education will begin to model what some of our online colleges are offering. Learn on your own time model.

Education clearly changed dramatically in 2020 and I expect many of those changes to be permanent in 2021. My guess is that there’s a subset of students and teachers that realize the virtual or hybrid model can expand access to education... it will be fascinating to watch what happens once we are all immunized.

I'm biased of course, but interesting that no-one commented on education. Of all the industries turned upside down by the pandemic, education must be one of the most disrupted. I really hope we don't just revert back to the way things were - we shall see!

Agree, Tom! I think the changing landscape in education is on a lot of people's minds, both in daycare through high school and in college and lifelong learning. Do you have a prediction for what in particular you think will happen in 2021?

Sadly, I think that formal education will quickly revert to the norm. The only things that could change this would be severe budget constraints and the fact that children are more established for at-home learning. I think the bigger shifts will happen with parents who can act independently: this year has forced them to consider education much more broadly, and to have a deeper insight into their child's education. This could lead to a much more informed consumer who is prepared to do things differently.

Nikhil, This is a super good effort in consolidating people's perception of the "the next big thing in 2021". There are a ton of entrepreneurship and venture ideas. Great post.
